Dental Cleanings and Check-ups Near You

There are various habits that contribute to good oral health. The most important habits are thoroughly brushing and flossing your teeth every day. Without proper brushing and flossing, the plaque will harden into tartar. When tartar is left on your teeth, it increases the risk of gum disease and tooth decay. That’s why we provide dental cleanings near you. Our hygienists will remove the buildup and help you achieve healthier teeth and gums.

Why are Frequent Dental Cleanings and Check-ups Necessary?

Plaque begins to form after you eat and drink. Your saliva mixes with the sugars and starches in the food to form an invisible layer on the surfaces of your teeth. In as little as twenty-four hours, the plaque will harden into tartar, making it impossible to remove with a toothbrush. As the plaque and tartar build around your gums and teeth, it increases the risk of developing tooth decay and gum disease. That’s why our dentist encourages patients to receive dental cleanings at least twice a year.

When plaque builds up around the gums, it can lead to gingivitis, the early stage of gum disease. If gingivitis is detected and treated during this stage, it is fully reversible. However, some patients will leave gingivitis untreated as it causes no pain. Once gingivitis progresses to periodontitis, it is no longer reversible and can cause tooth and bone loss. Frequent dental check-ups and cleanings can prevent the development of gingivitis and other oral health issues. Our dentist will thoroughly check and clean your gums and teeth and provide treatment before these issues can progress.

The Process of Receiving Dental Cleanings

If you’re looking to receive dental cleanings in Kelowna, our hygienist will first use dental tools to remove the plaque and tartar from your teeth. An ultrasonic tool will then be used to remove residual tartar and polish your teeth. After your teeth are cleaned, we will floss your teeth to ensure the crevices and gums are also clean. Lastly, you will be given a fluoride rinse to protect your teeth against cavities.

We are happy to provide dental cleanings near you to ensure your teeth and gums are healthy. Please contact us if you would like to schedule an appointment.

Receiving Dental Check-ups in Kelowna

Once your teeth have been cleaned, our dentist will examine your mouth for any signs of abnormalities or oral health issues. We will also take X-rays and perform an oral cancer screening. Our dentist will provide tips and recommendations to improve your oral health. If you have any concerns, please feel free to discuss them with our dentist during this time.

How to Maintain Good Oral Hygiene

Regular dental cleanings and check-ups are not a replacement for thorough at-home brushing and flossing. It’s important to brush for a minimum of two minutes in the morning and at night. Flossing at least once at night will also help ensure your gums are healthy. Our dentist also recommends rinsing or drinking water after you eat to prevent plaque.
