Tooth Extractions Near You

At Swift Dentistry, we will do everything possible to save your natural teeth. However, there are cases where the damage is beyond repair. In these cases, an extraction is the only option to improve your oral health. We know tooth extractions can seem scary, but our team will do our best to ensure you have a comfortable and positive experience. If you are searching for tooth extractions near you, we offer tooth extractions in Kelowna.

When Are Tooth Extractions Necessary?

There are various reasons why our dentist will recommend receiving an extraction. Although it’s not the ideal method, it can be the only option to prevent the spread or development of oral health problems. Typically, an extraction will be required in the following situations:

  • If you have excessive tooth decay
  • If your wisdom teeth are impacted or grown at an angle
  • If you have extra teeth
  • If your teeth are crowded
  • If your tooth is extremely damaged

By extracting a tooth, you can improve your oral health and prevent misalignment. If you’re looking to receive tooth extractions near you, please schedule a consultation. We will examine your teeth and determine if this is the only method to save your teeth.

The Process of Receiving Tooth Extractions

Typically, a simple extraction can be performed for visible teeth. In this case, our dentist will provide local anesthesia to numb your gums and surrounding tissues. If you feel anxious and would like sedation, please inform our staff prior to your appointment. Our dentist will then use tools to gently push and pull your tooth. You should feel some pressure but no pain.

A complicated tooth extraction will be performed in cases of impacted teeth (teeth partially erupted or trapped under the gums). We will make a slight incision into your gums to remove your tooth.

The Recovery Process

After your extraction, we will provide detailed aftercare instructions. It is essential to follow the instructions to prevent any complications during your recovery process. If the extraction area is bleeding, please bite down on a gauze. It’s important to avoid spitting, drinking from a straw, and brushing the extraction site in the first few days to prevent blood clots from dislodging. The blood clots help heal the area. Please gently rinse with warm salt water two to three times a day to keep the area clean. It is normal to experience swelling and discomfort in the first couple of days. We recommend using an ice pack to reduce the swelling.
